KEEP AN EYE ON PARISIAN TONE

Parisian Tone is an upcoming artist based out of both Paris and New York, demonstrating nothing less than raw talent. Through his recently dropped project Party Pack, Vol. 1, he proves his ability to glide lyrically over a mixture of classic and dreamy beats. “Songs are sounding more like intimate conversations between you & I these days.” Unlike much of the upcoming rap talent that … Continue reading KEEP AN EYE ON PARISIAN TONE

TRIPPIE REDD “LIFE’S A TRIP” ALBUM REVIEW

8.2/10 Best Tracks: “Together” “Missing My Idols” “Forever Ever” Worst Tracks: “Bird Shit” “Shake It Up” In an era where the newest “mumble rapper” pops up every week, it’s easy to label Trippie Redd as a product of this wave and throw him into the mix, especially because of how quickly he has recently come up. He really only started taking off with his music … Continue reading TRIPPIE REDD “LIFE’S A TRIP” ALBUM REVIEW

DRAKE ALBUMS RANKED

7) Views This album made it clear that Drake was starting to fall out of his prime element, and hasn’t fully been able to recover yet. It was also the project where he began experimenting and expanding his sound with his new jamaican, dancehall vibe which is honestly what worked best with songs like “One Dance (feat. WizKid and Kyla)” and “Childs Play”. His rapping … Continue reading DRAKE ALBUMS RANKED

XXXTENTACION: A REMEMBRANCE

Artist. Rapper. Rockstar. Savior. Inspiration. Therapist. These are all words that could have been used to describe Jahseh Onfroy, also known as XXXTentacion. This is certainly not the first time you are reading or hearing about his death, but I really wanted to write an article about his life and the influence he had on the hip hop scene as we know it today. … Continue reading XXXTENTACION: A REMEMBRANCE

TOP 5 RAPPERS WHO SHOULD HAVE BEEN ON THE 2018 XXL FRESHMAN COVER

Let me go ahead and preface this by saying that Lil Skies, Jay Critch, Rich the Kid, 6ix9ine, Juice WRLD or Lil Baby will not be included because of denying the cover or blowing up too quickly, even though I think all of those rappers should have been on it. The long awaited 2018 XXL Freshman Cover issue finally dropped… and I, just like many … Continue reading TOP 5 RAPPERS WHO SHOULD HAVE BEEN ON THE 2018 XXL FRESHMAN COVER

KANYE WEST & KID CUDI “KIDS SEE GHOSTS” ALBUM REVIEW

Kanye is really good at making us wait for albums, especially since this one wasn’t officially released on streaming services until about 10 am this morning, despite it being promised last night. Anyways, Kanye threw another listening party similar to the one he did for ye, except this one was actually set around a huge fire in a ghost town giving it a spooky feeling … Continue reading KANYE WEST & KID CUDI “KIDS SEE GHOSTS” ALBUM REVIEW

THE MIND OF 2018 MAC MILLER

693fd72afa7e7a49-MACMILLER---7Mac Miller, Larry Fisherman and Malcolm McCormick are all back to give the people what they didn’t know they needed. I’m not sure what’s up with artists going on long, silent breaks these days but it seems to be a more common theme. It makes for a great surprise when they return from hiding though and Mac Miller definitely falls under this category. Mac isn’t active on any social media whatsoever, except to release music, so he could be stranded on an island for all we know. However, with the sudden emergence of this triple release, clearly Mac is making some real good music wherever he is at. Continue reading “THE MIND OF 2018 MAC MILLER”

KEEP AN EYE ON J.I.D

If you haven’t listened to J.I.D before, you are honestly doing yourself a disservice. J.I.D, or Destin Route, is a 27 year old rapper from Atlanta and his come up has been real unique to say the least. Currently signed to Dreamville Records while appearing at festivals like Rolling Loud, collaborating with artists such as 6LACK and J Cole, making audio appearances on Donald Glover’s Atlanta, and  is a confirmed member of the 2018 XXL Freshman Cover, there is no doubt J.I.D is in the peak of his come up right now.DMebA9fV4AAeWdq Continue reading “KEEP AN EYE ON J.I.D”

A$AP ROCKY “TESTING” ALBUM REVIEW

On May 25th, A$AP Rocky returned from the 3 year hiatus he had taken from his career just like Bruce Wayne in the Dark Knight Returns, releasing his third studio album TESTING. Rocky definitely had been gassing this album up claiming it was bringing new sounds and experimentation with it. I don’t believe it was as sonically experimental as it was made to bed, but … Continue reading A$AP ROCKY “TESTING” ALBUM REVIEW

J COLE AND LIL PUMP: AN ANALYSIS

KODEver since J Cole has come out of hiding on April 20th with the release of his album KOD, he has been more active and involved, especially with the journalism side of hip hop. In the past month, his YouTube channel has released two lengthy interviews: one of him being interviewed by popular hip hop influencer, Angie Martinez and the other of him interviewing the one and only Lil Pump. J Cole has definitely appeared more conscious and meditative with his spirit representing that of a North Carolina monk. I am a supporter of his entrance as a calm master of hip hop, especially because of what he is trying to accomplish. Between these two interviews, we have seen that J Cole is making a true effort to identify and solve the issues of society, and specifically the rap scene, while also addressing his own ignorance and growth. A$AP ROCKY: AN ANALYSIS

LORD FLVCKO is really back. In this past week, Rakim Mayers has put on a unique album reveal called Lab Rat, introduced the cover of his newest project, and has now released his long awaited album Testing. After listening and absorbing this album less than an hour after it dropped, I think it is important that we analyze the history, come up and career of Rocky before he begins to receive his recognition as one of the greatest ever to enter the hip hop scene. We have witnessed an absolutely iconic transformation of a poor Harlem rapper into a symbol and visionary for all of the culture…let’s take a deeper look into A$AP Rocky. NAV “RECKLESS” ALBUM REVIEW

NAV is back to represent all of Toronto and show everyone that he is still “the first brown boy to get it poppin”. I haven’t really been keeping up with NAV so I was surprised when this album popped up on my Spotify. Last summer when he dropped his mixtape collaboration with Metro Boomin’, Perfect Timing, I was playing it everywhere I went for a solid month. I really couldn’t help myself because of the fact that he had superstar features every third track. This man really got Gucci, Lil Uzi, Carti, Offset and 21 Savage on the project! Anyways, high expectations were definitely set as I entered his first official studio album, Reckless. Unfortunately I came to the realization that without the help of others, NAV’s music is relatable to taking a Xanax…I don’t really remember a lot of it. KYLE “LIGHT OF MINE” ALBUM REVIEW

Kyle is finally here with his first debut album Light of Mine to fill everyone’s summer with SuperDuperHappinessandGoodVibes. Oh wait, this album is actually a deep dive into Kyle’s mind of alternating depression and girl problems. Well it’s definitely different than his other work and I was excited to listen. I have personally been a real big fan of Kyle for a few years after discovering his fire track “Keep It Real” off of his 2013 project titled Beautiful Loser and keeping it on replay for a few months. This continued with his very much overlooked 2015 project, Smyle which was exceptional and really showed that he has a lot of potential. However, Light of Mine shows an unfamiliar style of Kyle that took me by surprise. This newly released album is a great effort at looking into Kyle’s sad side, which is rarely seen or portrayed, while also providing a few summer hits despite it being clouded by an annoying concept with Lil Yachty.

KEEP AN EYE ON NESSLY

You may or may not have heard the name Nessly pop up on a Spotify playlist or in your friend’s car over the past year and a half. My first experience with this unique artist was probably similar to many others, in which I came across “Season (feat. Lil Yachty)” , surprised to see Lil Boat on a song with someone I have never heard of. However, after listening to that track and realizing it absolutely slaps, I fell in love with Nessly’s voice, which seems to synthesize some of hip hop’s favorite sounds. His style is immediately unique and automatically intriguing, only to be described as a mix of Travis Scott auto-tune, a dash of SoundCloud underground and plentiful melodic hooks. Nessly is an artist that has clearly had a slow rise that was meant for a purpose of perfecting his lane and  reaching larger audiences.
